Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun - The Smashing Pumpkins

Dai primi ascolti questo disco racchiude un po' tutto il Corgan che abbiamo conosciuto negli anni:

3. "Travels" - Suona come un pezzo dei True Poets of Zwan, molto interessante
5. "Alienation" - Prodotta bene (o meglio non rovinata dalla produzione), JC si sente, ci sta
6. "Marchin' On" - Con tutto il rispetto, il primo pezzo heavy riuscito da The Everlasting Gaze, cantato e chorus old-pumpkins style
7. "With Sympathy" - Una bella closure del disco, melodie un po' TFE
8. "Seek and You Shall Destroy" - Punk/Pop evitabile senza la quale il disco ne avrebbe giovato (inutili come The Chimera o quei pezzi lì)

Io la trovo bellissima (non mi dilungo) e in qualche modo coraggiosa (e vivaddio) dato che si presta consapevolmente a essere distrutta per le scelte di arrangiamento non proprio da comfort zone.

Non mi va di paragonarla a nulla, la apprezzo e basta.. tanto meno la accosto a Teargarden che considero in assoluto il periodo più nero del trentennio.

Mayonaise: Billy, James 2016 - The Smashing Pumpkins

Emozionante, inaspettato, nostalgico, ok, ma non esageriamo. Jeff fa gli assoli al posto di Corgan laddove James fa il compitino oggi come allora. La sua grandezza è stata influenzata dall'essere al posto giusto nel momento giusto, ma non lo dico io, l'ho letto qui per anni.
La dimensione di questo tour, un po' più acustico, un po' intimista, un po' insolito ha fatto si che si potesse proporre la Mayonaise qui sopra, suonata la data prima senza James allo stesso modo (https://archive.org/details/tsp2016-03-23).
